VIDEO: Home is moving online

For so many people, a surprising blessing of this year has been the discovery that a Bikram Yoga practice is entirely portable.

Every time you get on your mat at home, you remind yourself that, no matter how much else has changed, you hold the keys to your physical and mental wellbeing.

Regardless of access to a hot room.
Keep reading below, and check out FAQ Here.
We've worked hard this year to keep Home going, guided by our vision of happy, healthy people lovingly connected to themselves, each other and the world.

In order to continue, the time has come for us to stop paying rent and expenses on a studio we are not allowed to fill.

Only when we do that, can we focus our energy and resources on connecting you with the benefits of Bikram Yoga and a yoga community, in the place where it needs to happen for now: the interwebs!

That's why Home Hot Yoga will not be reopening our brick and mortar location after the current shutdown.

Instead, we will keep our classes and community completely online.

Practicing Bikram Yoga, we've learned to try the right way- even when it's hard.

We know this way is right. And it is definitely hard, because it involves letting go of a place which has brought us so much happiness.

So we are giving ourselves permission to be sad. Please also give yourself permission to be sad. This is sad!

And it will be OK.

Your yoga practice doesn’t depend on a hot room.
The skills you’ve learned are yours to keep forever.
The friends you made at yoga are still your friends.

Home is wherever you are.

We know you may have questions! Click here for FAQ, and of course feel free to reach out if there’s anything else you’d like to know.

We miss you.
We love you.
And we’ll see you soon- online!

What happened?
  • Check out this post for a more mushy message from Kay & Orlo! In a nutshell though:
  • Under the current government regulations, HHY (and all indoor gyms or yoga studios in Multnomah County) must remain closed until the county is no longer in the "Extreme Risk" category. Officials expect it will be months before this happens.
  • We've decided to let go of our in-person studio. Paying rent and expenses on this big beautiful space just doesn't make sense when we aren't allowed to fill it with yogis.
  • We had hoped to sell the studio but (go figure) there simply ain't a lot of buyers looking to take on a business which can't be open. :(
  • Our landlord has agreed to let us terminate our lease, and we will vacate the premises in early January.

What about online yoga?
  • We will continue to offer online yoga on our website!
  • We look forward to adding more online offerings in 2021.

What about my unlimited membership?
  • We've prorated your December dues.
  • Starting January your membership will be going virtual!
  • Your monthly dues have been reduced to $40/month starting in January, and you'll enjoy full access to online classes! You'll receive an email from Kay on December 12, with a link to set up your account. If you don't see it, please check your spam and if still no then email us.
  • If your membership was suspended, we have cancelled your membership. (No worries, you can sign up for online classes here!)
  • If you need to make any changes to your membership, email us and we will address your request in a timely manner. Thank you in advance for your patience as it may take us a bit longer than usual to get back to you during this time. We always always send a confirmation email after making any changes.
  • Please note that besides the above we will not make any other changes to your membership at this time unless requested via email to homehotyoga@gmail.com

What about my account balance or unused visits on my class pack?
  • For any unused classes on a class pack which has not expired, we will give you an account credit for the value of those classes. So for example if you payed $180 for a 10 Pack, each unused class is worth $18. You may apply the credit in any of the below ways. You will need to email us to tell us how to apply your credit.
  • If you have an account balance, we invite you to spend it on retail in our online boutique!
  • You may request a cash refund of any remaining balance or the value of unused classes on a class package. Cash refunds are available to pick up by appointment before 12/31. Please email us to arrange a time.
  • You may apply your account balance to a HHY To Go plan. (Yup you guessed it: you need to email us to set up your special promo code.)
  • Or... donate your balance as a bonus to our beloved staff! Email us to request. ;)

Can I buy some artwork/ furniture/ fixtures?
  • Why yes you can! EVERY thing is for sale.
  • Click here to check out our Craigslist ad
  • Stop by the studio December 19-20 for our giant sale!

How can I help?
  • Keep practicing Bikram Yoga!
  • Write to the Governor and your Oregon legislators. You can find their addresses here. Tell them how yoga studios are one of the safest businesses you could possibly visit during a global pandemic, and that they are providing services essential to your physical and mental health.
  • Support the local businesses you love. A friend of ours put it this way: "Just because we're open, doesn't mean we're ok." Buying stuff helps, but there is SO much you can do which doesn't cost a penny. Here are some ideas: give a 5-star review, tell a friend about them, post about them (and tag them) on your social media pages, mention them when people ask for recommendations.

What's next?
  • Have a little cry if you need one (*hug*)
  • Sign up for HHY To Go!
  • Keep following us on Facebook, Instagram & YouTube
  • Keep practicing Bikram Yoga ;)

Home will be CLOSED for in person classes

11/15/2020

Here we are again, yogis. Oof.

Governor Brown announced Friday, November 13 (lucky, right?) that Multnomah County will begin a temporary "freeze" for a minimum of 4 weeks, which involves shutting down many small businesses including ours. (But malls and churches can be open?? Hm. That's another blog post though.)

This is a big bummer for everyone- AND we will be here for you. Check out all the details below!
Picture
When are you closing and when will you re-open?
As of November 18 we closed for in-person classes for a minimum of 4 weeks, per the Governor's mandate. Join us for Virtual Bikram Yoga classes on Zoom or in our extensive on-demand library! As for reopening, we just don't know right now. We will keep you posted as we get closer to the end of the initial 4 weeks.

Can I practice at home even without the heat?
YES. The Bikram Yoga sequence of postures and breathing exercises is powerful, even without the heat. (Though adding some heat sure helps.) We created this whole "DIY Hot Room" guide to help you make the most of the space you've got at (your) home. It ain’t the same as being in a class at Home, of course- but it is waaay better than nothing! Be gentler and very mindful with your practice, since you won’t have the full-on heat to keep you stretchy.

Maybe I should just wait until the studio is open again?
NOPE. Firstly, that could be months. You deserve to feel yoga-good now, not "later." Continuing your yoga during this time will help keep your stress levels low, your nervous system calm, your immune system kicking butt- and also maintain the strength, flexibility and balance you have worked so hard to build here at the studio! Check out this video for tips on creating a safe hot(ish) space for home practice.

What about my membership?
We understand if you need to make a change to your membership at this time. To make a change, email homehotyoga@gmail.com. Thank you for your patience as it may take us longer than usual to respond. If you are a current member, you should have received additional instructions for accessing online classes via email. Please be sure to add us to your email contacts so you stay up to date!

How do I access online classes?
If you have a HHY Membership or a subscription to HHY To Go, you've already got what you need to access all our online offerings HERE. If you have another pass or don't know how to access HHYTG, email us and we'll hook you up!

This sucks. What can I do to help?
  • BIKRAM YOGA. Seriously! Maintain your yoga practice to keep your immunity roaring and cortisol low- oh, and keep your patience and sanity so you can be kind to your family and neighbors and also to yourself.
  • Follow us @homehotyoga on the IG, Facebook and YouTube for studio updates.
  • Support local biz as much as possible. Many small businesses do not have the resources to survive this closure without your help. So if you love a biz and want them to exist, help them stay open by buying stuff from them! In St. Johns some businesses who especially align with our core values of hospitality and integrity are: Flourish Plant-Based Kitchen, Sissy's Beverage Emporium, Jamaica House and Hound & Hare Vintage!
  • Many of our members have asked that we keep their memberships active during this time as a way to continue supporting the studio. We are deeply grateful for this!
  • As a local family owned small business, we rely on revenue from HHY to continue providing you with the highest quality of yoga instruction whether in-studio or online (plus pay our bills and feed our kids.) If you want to offer additional support you can donate any amount to our GoFundMe campaign. We understand this time is hard on everyone, and your donations mean SO much to us.
  • Refuse to live in fear. Everything will be OK- because even when it's not really OK: you can still be OK. That is something we have learned from Bikram Yoga, and we hope that you have too.
